Advocacy Visit to Community Leaders in Selected Fifteen Communities in Atiba, Akinyele, Ogbomoso North, and Kajola Local Governments of Oyo State
The Centre for Comprehensive Promotion of Reproductive Health (CCPRH) with support United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in collaboration with Oyo State Primary Health Care Board visited community leaders in Koso, Oke-Olola, Aafin, Moniya, Olorisa-Oko, Alabata, Aroro, Saja-Isale Ora, Oke-Elerin, Taraa, Masifa, Oleele, Bode, Igbogaa and Gbelekale in Atiba, Akinyele, Ogbomoso North and Kajola Local Government Areas of Oyo State. The purpose of the visit is to solicit their support to publicly denounce Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in their communities. At the end of the event, the community leaders of the fifteen communities in the four local government areas agreed that the program should take place in their communities and pledged their full support to advocate for public abandonment of FGM. Also in attendance were the Community-Based Organizations implementing in each local government; Christianah Olawumi Foundation (Ogbomoso North), Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria, Oyo State Branch (Atiba LGA), Rural People Development Initiative (Kajola LGA) and Matan Arewa for Sustainable Development (Akinyele LGA).
Public Declaration Ceremony of Abandonment in Atiba, Akinyele, Ogbomoso North and Kajola Local Government of Oyo State
A total of Fifteen communities in the selected four local government have publicly declared abandonment for FGM. This was pronounced by the community leaders and certificate of Public Declaration for Abandonment of FGM was presented to all the communities. They all agreed to put an end to the unlawful act and assured the community that perpetrators shall be sanctioned. The event took place in the four implementing local governments by Centre for Comprehensive Promotion of Reproductive Health (CCPRH) in collaboration with Oyo State Primary Health Care Board and support from United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Together in attendance were the Community Based Organizations implementing in each local government; Christianah Olawumi Foundation (Ogbomoso North), Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigeria, Oyo State Branch (Atiba LGA), Rural People Development Initiative (Kajola LGA) and Matan Arewa for Sustainable Development (Akinyele LGA). At the end of the event, the community leaders appreciated UNFPA, CCPRH and SPHCB together with all the CBOs for their consistency in all the activities. A total number of 259 participants were in attendance for the activity with 137males and 122 females.
