Prof. Adesola Olumide is a Senior Medical Research Fellow and Consultant Community Physician at the Institute of Child Health ICH, University of Ibadan and University College Hospital, Ibadan Nigeria. Her main research interests are in adolescent and young people’s health and in non-communicable disease (injury and substance abuse) epidemiology.
In addition, she is interested in developing electronic-media based interventions to reach adolescents who are avid users of these technologies. She coordinated the Adolescent Health component of the MPH programme in Child and Adolescent Health (CAH) run by the Institute of Child Health from 2008 to 2017.
Moreover, she was the Coordinator of the Infant Welfare/ Well-child Clinic in the Institute of Child Health from 2014 to 2017. She also served on the National Adolescent Health Technical Working Group. Over the course of her career, she has served as a Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-PI on a number of projects. Some of these include the Road Traffic Injuries Research Network (RTIRN) Junior Researchers’ award to conduct a study on building the capacity of university drivers in provision of first aid for road crash victims; the Well-being of Adolescents in Vulnerable Environments (WAVE) Study (a multi-city collaborative study) and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. – sponsored baseline study conducted to provide information on young people’s use of technology to access Sexual and Reproductive Health information and services in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, she assumed office as the Ag Director of the Institute of Child Health, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan in 2017. She was recently invited to serve as a Commissioner on the WHO-UNICEF-Lancet Commission on Child Health and Well-Being.
She has a keen interest in mentoring of junior colleagues and her research interests have expanded to include utilization of research findings to develop and implement evidence-based interventions to address problems of adolescents and young people.
