One Team, Many Talents
The Centre for Comprehensive Promotion of Reproductive Health, formerly Centre for Population and Reproductive Health (CPRH), is a multidisciplinary centre established in 2002 through the collaborative effort of The College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and The Gates Institute at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA. Her mandate is to implement training programs in Reproductive, Maternal, New-born, and Child Health (RMNCH) and population health as well as developmental issues. Over the years, CCPRH has pioneered and provided leadership for acquisition of RMNCH service and research skills and has been in the forefront of translation of research into practice aimed at improving the quality of RMNCH in the country and beyond.
The Centre thus contributes to strengthening capacities in RMNCH and Population policy and program formulation, development, implementation including coordination, and monitoring and evaluation. Since inception, the multidisciplinary nature of CCPRH has enabled it to provide comprehensive cutting-edge expertise on issues relating to population, sexual and reproductive health, and rights.
In 2020, the process of transitioning from CPRH to CCPRH commenced following the conduct of an organizational capacity assessment where institutional capacity gaps that may limit CPRH’s access to funding opportunities especially from international funders were identified and priority areas that CPRH needed to pay urgent attention to by way of putting in place all that is required for effective institutional management were recommended.
Center for Comprehensive Promotion of Reproductive Health, CCPRH, is therefore registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as a not for profit and non- governmental organisation (Registration no: 170665) and has an incorporated trustee. CCPRH is led by a Board of Trustees (BOT), which meets regularly to chart direction, agree on strategy, and oversee performance.
We are primarily established to:
i. Contribute to improved enabling environment for health, especially RMNCH+FP, through active participation in policy development and advocacy for funding at the national, State, and LGA levels.
ii. Contribute to reduction in morbidity and mortality from RMNCH issues through engagement with community, traditional, and religious leaders, groups, and significant others.
iii. Strengthen health systems through capacity building for healthcare workers and institutions in public and private spheres to deliver quality RMNCH services.
iv. Promote innovative methods for the uptake of and improvement in RMNCH+FP, including demand creation for services.
v. Train diverse population in diverse settings on a wide range of RMNCH and public health issues, including trainings on strategic leadership for health workers and managers.
vi. Conduct interdisciplinary research including surveys and clinical trials on RMNCH issues.
vii. Strengthen leadership capacity for effective management of public health programs.
viii. Improve knowledge and evidence for leaning, internal use, and sharing among organizations, agencies, and institutions involved in health development.
